Apparently, they have spectacular scenery, which is not unlike my home state of Michigan. Although we have stunning shorelines, we do not have mountains or oceanside views. However, British Colombia does have earthquakes, tsunamis and massive wildfires claiming their Pacific Northwest lands, whereas we do not in the eastern Midwest territories.
But British Columbia visitors do declare that their jaws drop when they experience the stunning scenery starting from the west coast to the Okanagan vineyards and heading over to the Gulf Islands, to the ski slopes and mountains,. We’ll have to find out for ourselves, but they also say that British Colombia has been hailed as having some of the most fantastic scenery in the world.
In a BBC article, they interviewed a Vancouver resident on why people love British Colombia. “Our progressive politics and universal healthcare make Canada a wonderful place to live,” said Vancouver resident Samantha Falk. “I cannot imagine living in a country where I have to worry about being able to afford to see a doctor or take my child to the hospital, or risk bankruptcy by having cancer.”
Wow, I might reconsider my living situation! Unfortunately, these are worries that most people in the U.S. have on a daily basis. In fact, back in 2008, when the market went crazy, especially in the Detroit market, I was pregnant with my youngest. He was born in the first week of January 2009, and when I got to the hospital, OBGYN, anesthesiologist, and imaging services bills, we could not afford them. Sadly, as a direct result of the astronomical medical bills, we had to claim bankruptcy.

This multiculturalism is reflected in the city’s food, festivals, and arts. From the famous Vancouver International Film Festival to the diverse culinary landscape that offers something from every corner of the globe, there’s never a shortage of cultural activities in which to immerse oneself. Additionally, cities like Victoria, the capital of B.C., are known for their historic charm and lively arts communities.

What language is spoken in British Columbia?
Near where I live in Michigan, on the other side of the Detroit River within the Ontario province, in cities like Windsor or Toronto, they speak English and French.
I’ve learned that most people in British Colombia also speak English at home. On British Columbia’s welcome website, “After English, the most common languages spoken at home are Cantonese and Mandarin, Punjabi, German, Tagalog, French, Korean, Spanish, and Farsi. In 2011, twenty-six percent of people in B.C. spoke a language other than English or French as their first language,”.
Additionally, numerous Indigenous languages are spoken in various regions of British Columbia, reflecting the Province’s rich cultural diversity and heritage. The Province is home to more than thirty distinct Indigenous languages, contributing to its linguistic landscape.
What is unique about British Columbia?
Growing up in Michigan, we are very familiar with the east side of Canada: how the climate is, where the good camping is, what casinos to go to, what bars let in nineteen-year-olds, and where to sit for the international fireworks spectacular held on the Detroit River, sponsored by both Windsor, Ontario Canada and Detroit, MI USA.
