June 8th is set aside to recognize your best bud’s, amigos, the boyz, the crew, gal pals and BFF’S of all shapes and sizes. Today is formally recognized as Best Friends Day.

Our English word Friend is from the Old English frēond and is derived from both Germanic origin Freund; and related to Dutch vriend. It is also sourced from an Indo-European root meaning ‘to love,’ which is also shared by the word free. But, the words used all over the world are quite different to affirm those with whom we come in contact. Here’s a quick map of Earth, and the word  friend as spoken throughout the globe.
