A common claim made in real estate is that a given property is “At the center of it all.”  But in the contiguous United States, only one place can truly make that claim, the small rural town Lebanon, Kansas.  Lebanon, Kansas, approximately 12 miles south of the Kansas-Nebraska border.  As of the 2010 census, the city population was 218. Less you think something else, Lebanon is actually named after Lebanon, Kentucky.

While you would think such a remote place would go rather unnoticed, this central point has captured the imagination of two creatives. Lebanon was featured in the TV Series Supernatural. It was the former base of the secret society known as The Men of Letters, wherein the world’s most comprehensive collection of supernatural literature was stored. The show’s main characters, Dean and Sam Winchester,  turned the base is in into their home. Lebanon, KS was also featured in Neil Gaiman’s American Gods, as the point where the Old Gods and the New Gods to parlay.

So, if you really want to start in the middle of America, the place for you to start in Lebanon, KS.
