BOTTOM LINE: How omnipresent is Google?
According to web ranking and research site Alexia.com, Google and its properties represent 18 of the top 100 Websites globally. 15 of the 18 are country specific web search sites, such as Google Canada, Google India and Google Japan. Said another way, Google enjoys a 65.2% share of web search volume worldwide.
The scope of Google is that they now process over 40,000 search queries every second on average which translates to over 3.5 billion searches per day and 1.2 trillion searches per year worldwide. For those of you who think you are smarter than Google, know that 16% to 20% of all search engine queries that get asked every day have never been asked before.
Every query has to travel on average a physical distance of 1,500 miles to one of Google’s data centers and back to return the answer to the user. A single Google query uses 1,000 computers in 0.2 seconds to retrieve your answer.
